You’re spoilt for choice with Miami’s bars. From futuristic to old fashioned, arcade, cabaret, and stock market themed, plus plenty of Cuban spice, there’s a bar to suit everyone’s tipple.
Ball & Chain
Ball & Chain is a 1930s style hideaway that once saw jazz royalty like Billie Holiday performing. This quirky venue sits opposite the historic Tower Theatre and offers Cuban-inspired cocktails starting from $12 and tasty tapas. Come for the live jazz, starting at 6pm from Thursday to Saturday, or head down on a Saturday night for a sizzling Cuban fiesta featuring traditional salsa dancers.
The Cabaret South Beach
This intimate, speakeasy style bar welcomes in patrons with the glow of its red lighting and the promise of a show. The bar staff at The Cabaret South Beach perform cabaret numbers, aerial displays and piano solos with impressive flair. There’s no cover charge here and 2-4-1 happy hour is between 7-9pm, so it’s affordable entertainment too.
Kill Your Idol
Kill Your Idol is a quirky, hip bar with live music, burlesque and karaoke, plus giant replicas of Bruce Lee and Jaws hanging from the ceiling, of course. Open till 5am, this club is definitely one not to be missed.
Blackbird Ordinary’s rustic red and wooden décor gives this bar a deep south, Americana feel. Perch at the bar and order yourself a signature Blackbird cocktail, costing just $10 and consisting of Sweet Tea Vodka, fresh blackberries and lemonade – a little bird told me they’re delicious!
The bright neon lights of Haven Lounge make it feel like a futuristic disco. This pumping Hi-Fi lounge serves organic dishes and tasty cocktails until 5am. The food ranges from sushi to Swedish meatballs, Korean BBQ burgers and country fried quail, priced from $11-36.
The Rum Line
The Rum Line is a charming alfresco bar with a tropical tiki vibe, set at the St. Moritz Tower of the Loews. Over 100 types of rum are used to create prohibition inspired cocktails, and there are delicious Cuban sandwiches and rum-glazed baby back ribs available to line your stomach before trying potent cocktails like the Hemingway Daiquiri and Mai Tai Explosion.
The clever Bull Market bar is based on an American stock market, complete with a TV screen showing prices which change according to customer demand and hourly market crashes which give customers seconds to buy drinks at low prices. Specialising in craft beers and ales, this quirky bar also has cocktails, martinis and beer cocktails – try a Black Velvet, equal parts Guinness and Angry Orchard Cider.
ARTcade, from the owners of Cabaret South Beach, is a bar with an arcade and art gallery to boot. The pumping 80s and 90s hits draw a young, trendy crowd, and the old-school games including Donkey Kong, Pac-Man and Space Invaders are enough to keep any gamer happy. There’s no cover charge, cheap drinks and even a karaoke night on Tuesdays.
Mac’s Club Deuce
If shiny South Beach is not for you, Mac’s Club Deuce is a world apart. Miami’s oldest bar sees celebs like Cameron Diaz and Kate Moss through its doors, and the smoky, neon lit booths are the perfect place to nurse a whisky or a strong cocktail till 5am.
The Broken Shaker
The Broken Shaker, Miami’s best mixology bar, is a fairy-tale setting with outdoor garden seating, twinkly lights, and Jenga to keep you entertained. The owners infuse their own liquor to create artisan cocktails with Cocoa Puff-infused bourbon and mushroom bitters, to name a few.
