If you’re into extreme sports, short films, or just fancy trying something a little different on your holiday to the Canary Islands this year, you’ll love the Canaries Surf Film Festival (CSFF). Held on several of the islands, it’s an event that will certainly make a splash!
The Canaries Surf Film Festival is the first event to showcase the diverse and fascinating culture of surfing in the Canary Islands via the medium of film and photography. The festival is in its third year and is set to be the most exciting so far with a whole host of fantastic short films directed by local, national and international filmmakers, all about the world of surfing. CSFF travels across five of the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa) on various dates throughout autumn so there’s no excuse to miss out!
The films range from beautiful movies documenting the art of the waves to hilarious events with people surfing while duct taped together – it’s sure to entertain! If you’re a big surfing buff there are interviews with some of the world’s best surfers as well as documentaries on some beautiful but extreme surfing spots – if you’re looking for inspiration on places to test the waves, you’ll find it at CSFF.
But it’s not just the films that will wow you at Canaries Surf Film Festival; there are also presentations, photography exhibitions, musical performances, and special guests to discover.
Canaries Surf Film Festival kicked off in August with ‘The Event’, an exciting celebration in Tenerife with special guests, performances by DJs and local bands, and several other fun activities like an American classic car exhibition, bicycle customisation and graffiti sessions – surfers apparently really know how to throw a party.
If you didn’t make it to the launch event, you’ll still have chance to experience some of the Canaries Surf Film Festival fun when the event hits South Tenerife in October. The event will be held at the Hotel Medano in El Medano on Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th October.
Though the event has already visited North Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, you’ve still got time to catch it in Gran Canaria too, where the festival will take to the Cultural Centre of La Caja de Canarias in Las Palmas from Thursday 1st to Saturday 3rd October.
Head to the Canary Islands this September or October, or put it in your diaries for next year, just don’t miss the fantastic Canaries Surf Film Festival for something a little different and very daring. Whether you want to inspire your next surf holiday or just find out a little more about this fascinating sport, you’ll definitely be feeling those radical waves, and may even end up jumping in for a try yourself.
