5 Senses of Turkey Blogger Event

Last night, Thomas Cook Airlines took a group of lucky bloggers on a journey through the 5 Senses of Turkey and we hope that they enjoyed it as much as we did!

Our event was held at the very trendy Paradise by Way of Kensal Green, the haunt of celebrities like Cara Delevingne, Ellie Goulding and Daisy Lowe.

In rooms painted as turquoise as the Turkish Riviera, and edged with a fading gold of the Ottoman Empire, we explored each of the 5 senses: touch, taste, sight, scent and sound. We thought that we’d share some of the photos from the event with you and tempt you to follow us to Turkey to indulge your own senses.

Our sense of taste was tickled with three beautifully mixed cocktails: Antalyan Dream (Turkish delight martini), Paradise Night in Izmir and a Dalaman Citrus Ice Tea as well as platters of bright and colourful mezze, bursting with flavour.

The main event for ‘taste’ however was the Turkish wine tasting, with one white wine, one rose and 2 reds. For those who didn’t know, Turkey is a renowned wine producing region and last night we got a chance to savour these little known wines. Needless to say, we’re converted!

At our ‘touch’ station we had our two lovely ladies showing us how to make either Turkish coffee or rose face scrubs and body lotions. The face sugar scrub base is rough and exfoliating and wonderful for the skin as well as being so delicately scented– we can’t wait to try ours at home!

In a corner of our venue was a table covered in exotic accessories and props for our lovely bloggers to dress up in and get snapping! The beautiful red fes hats were loved by all but we think the accessory of the night goes to the shimmering bronze belly dancer wings that turned each of our attendees into exotic stars!

In order to entice the sense of scent, we set up our very own Turkish apothecary, complete with all the essential oils, syrups and spices that can be found in the grand bazaars of Turkey.

We challenged our bloggers to guess the different scents stoppered within our delicate painted glass bottles and we were surprised by how well they did!

We were joined by two members of the Ahenkli music team, who serenaded us with authentic Turkish instrumental music all night – did you catch their duelling drumming?

Our event was made extra special with the arrival of our lovely air hostess Michelle who came to join us all the way from Manchester to talk to the bloggers about the different routes to Turkey with Thomas Cook Airlines.

Exploring Turkey

Thomas Cook Airlines flies to 4 dazzling destinations in Turkey where you can immerse yourself further in the 5 Senses of Turkey…

Antalya is the biggest city on the Turquoise Coast, with the imposing Taurus mountains providing a backdrop and the Düden Waterfalls rushing through, it’s not short on beautiful natural phenomena. However it is also home to some of the region’s most interesting historical sites such as Hıdırlık Tower and Hadrian’s Gate.

If you’re looking for azure blue water and golden beaches , this is the place for you! Head to the famous inlets of Fethiye and walk in the footsteps of James Bond in Skyfall at Calis Beach. Check out the pebbled beach and blue lagoon of Ölüdeniz, which is frequently named as one of the top 5 beaches in the world by travellers.

Fall in love with this romantic town on the water, home to row upon row of wooden sailing boats ready to carry you off into the sunset. The town takes on a magical hue at night when the imposing 15th century Bodrum Castle glows in the moonlight. The city was home to one of the 7 wonders of the Ancient World: the Mausoleum of Mausolus and you can explore the ruins as well as lose yourself in the museum of underwater archaeology!

This metropolitan city has over 4000 years of urban history and has been ruled by the Persians, Alexander the Great and the Romans before being taken back by the Turks. As a result, the city is full of historical buildings and ruins – look out for the famous Izmir Clock Tower or take a day trip to the unique Library of Celsus at Ephesus – one of the few surviving Roman public libraries.
